A French university laboratory specialised in chemistry and biotechnology has patented a method to produce nano-objects with specific properties and dedicated functions. They are in the shape of aqueous core wrapped in hybrid shell. The core can encapsulate a fluorescing agent or an active pharmaceutical ingredient for therapy. The ferromagnetic nanoparticle shell is useful as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imagery. The laboratory is seeking industrial companies for license agreements.

Description     

 

A French university laboratory discovered and patented a method to produce new nano-objects for use in medical imaging and also as vectoring agents. The invention also relates to the process for preparing these nano-objects with specific properties and dedicated functions. These nano-objects consist in an aqueous cores covered by a hybrid shell made of organic polymer and inorganic magnetic nanoparticles (see picture).

 

The aqueous core is able to encapsulate an active pharmaceutical ingredient or a fluorescent imaging agent. The ferromagnetic nanoparticle shell is useful as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imagery.

 

The shells are made of inorganic nanoparticles (iron oxides, gold, quantum dots or a mixture of nanoparticles). Polymers can be of various type such as poly(acrylic acid), PVP, poly(glycol ethylene). Nanoparticles and polymers create an hybrid shell of 70 to 150 nm able to encapsulate a fluorescing agent, a therapeutic small molecule or a radioelement. Polymers can be grafted with peptides, antibodies, aphtamers to target specific cells and organs. Grafting of the polymer with vectorization compounds such as antibodies is possible in order to target specific cells and organs (cancer cells for instance).

 

The nano-objects can act in all types of medical imaging and also as vectoring agents. The French laboratory is seeking industrial companies for license agreements or research cooperation agreements.

 

Type and Role of Partner Sought    

 

The French Laboratory is mainly looking for partners such as SME or start-up in the fields of drug delivery, therapy, imagery, oncology, nanomedicine in order to create a R&D partnership that will be financially supported by the French university and with the aim to lead to a licence agreement in the future. The French Laboratory is open to further research cooperation with companies in the medical sector or others.
