A SME from Northern Italy is developing innovative tools for resource management in agriculture through satellite data, by:developing of calculation tools for nutrient balance into crops management; design of database for the storage of farms management data; developing and validation of prescription maps and crops monitoring tools from satellite imagery.

Partners are sought for research, technical or commercial cooperation with technical assistance; interested also in finding investors

 

Description     

The SME, a spin-off from a primary University and devoted to the technological transfer in agriculture, is developing innovative tools for resource management in agriculture using satellite data.

The improvement of resource efficiency and sustainability of the productive workflow is one of the main issues that the agronomic sector is currently facing. Especially in the last decades it has been showing the capability for describing plants biophysical features, such as  vigor, that can be related to crop quality and potential yield. In this context, the SME has started to develop web-tools for crop monitoring and management mainly devoted to small and medium size cereals farms, where complex and expensive precision farming technologies are not suitable for technical and economical reasons.

This tool developed by the SME allows the collection of field georeferenced data, crop practices and crop production levels which can be retrieved as a database.

On the other hand, the availability of satellite acquisitions leads to the generation of maps describing spectral properties of crops and fields at farm level which can be useful for producers and/or agribusiness companies/ organizations for different purposes (e.g. field management and inputs spatial optimization, crop monitoring and production assessments).

The SME is interested in finding different types of Partners:

1. Research entities, to provide site-specific and crop-specific data to validate model correlation in different countries, through joint development of the tool;

2. Companies, producing fertilizers or other commodities for agrofood sector, intersted in embedding the tools as a service within their commercial offer to their clients: the cooperation can be a commercial cooperation with technical assistance.

3. Research Institutes, interested to scale up their scientific knowledge and acquire data into commercial products, by joint development through technical collaboration.

4. Investors, to accelerate the development of the main tool and further application to offer new added-value services.

5. Finally, the SME is open to collaboration in research projects such as Horizon2020.

The tool is a prototype (Beta version) validated for Northern Italy: the SME is interested in a collaboration to validate it in other European areas (in this case, the partner could provide the data for the in-situ validation of the model)

 

Type and Role of Partner Sought    

Different types of partner are sought:

1. Research entities, to provide site-specific and crop-specific data to validate model correlation in different countries, through joint development of the tool; in fact the tool is at the moment a prototype (Beta version) validated for Northern Italy: the partner could provide the data for the in-situ validation of the model to adapt it to other European areas.

2. Companies producing fertilizers or other commodities for agrofood sector, intersted in embedding the tools as a service within their commercial offer to their clients: the cooperation can be a commercial cooperation with technical assistance.

3. Research Institutes, to scale up scientific knowledge and acquired the data into commercial products, by joint development through technical collaboration.

4. Investors, to accelerate the development of the main tool and further application to offer new services.

5. research partner for international projects (i.e. under Horizon2020 calls).
