A Slovak research institute has developed a new ferro-fluid which increase the separability of materials under magnetic field. Ferro-fluid is therefore applicable as a pseudo-heavy separation media in the process of magneto-hydrostatic separation or as wetting agent, e.g. in recycling technologies or in a process of mineral extraction. The institute is looking for partners to cooperate via license agreement. They would like to commercialize this technology within the company praxis.

 

Description     

Established Slovak institute has developed a new ferro-fluid with application in mining industry and recycling. The institute has nowadays a dominant position in Slovak Republic within the basic and applied research in the area of rock disintegration, mineral processing, mechanochemistry, mineral biotechnologies and environmental protection.

 

Invented ferro-fluid is a special medium, and its production and density are adjustable under magnetic field. Ferro-fluid is composed of 3 basic components: basic liquid, solid magnetic material, and the stabilising agent. The “carry” liquid is an arbitrary liquid, the magnetic properties of which can be improved, for example water, kerosene, oil, etc. The carriers of the magnetic properties of ferro-fluids are single-domain nano-sized magnetic particles. The role of the stabilising agent is to prevent the colloidal particles from aggregation.
